Value lies in potential.
It’s not what I’ve done in life that determines my value or my self-worth. It’s what I’m going to do that determines those things.
Likewise, it’s not what I’ve done that determines whether I am “good” or “bad.” It’s what I’m going to do next that determines that.
Change happens now. Right now.
When I’m aware of that, I regain a little control over my life. Just a tiny bit. (“god” with a small “g.” A god who shits.)
I’m not in control of life, but I am in control of me within this life.
If I think I’m a “bad person” and want to become a “good person,” all I have to do is start doing good things. Now. That’s all there is to it.
If I think I have no value, all I have to do is become useful (to be of service to someone else). The moment I do, I’ve demonstrated my value.
The beautiful part is that every one of us has that same opportunity.
We all possess the potential to serve.
We all possess the potential to love.
We all possess the potential to change.
That’s why we all have value, not because of what we’ve accomplished, failed at, or survived, but because of what remains possible.
In that sense, we’re equals.
Our circumstances differ. Our stories differ. Our choices differ.
But all possess great potential to be of service, and to tap into it is as quick as making a decision to do so.
